For the tenth anniversary of Twilight, when I heard Life and Death was coming out, I was not all that interested to be blunt. I had the preconceived notion that it was likely to be a retelling of Twilight where just the gender related nouns and pronouns would have been swapped from the she to the he and vice versa, and of course the names changing but keeping the first letter.
These things of course did happen, but so much more was changed too. Stephanie Meyer had the opportunity to do what many authors sometimes with they could. To go back and edit and make changes after the books been published. To clean up awkward sentences, or embellish where she hadn’t considered back when first writing her story. It really shows too, I really enjoyed reading this more than I thought I would and the improvement to writing helped a lot of that at first. There was also funny going on, I found my self cracking up and it made it that much more than twilight.
I wasn’t intending to make this a long review but I wanted to stress that while it is the same Twilight, simply reimagined it really is in many ways different from Bella and Edwards story. I won’t give spoilers simply because you’d have to read it yourself to truly understand what I’m tying to express.
Because it needs to be said; the names really? how awkward to read and it could have been simpler… Bella:Beau? how about Benat or Blane? Edyth for Edward?? Why not simply Emily, or even Elizabeth? Then again, remember what they Bella/Edward named their daughter, ugh. I also felt that while Edward chose to drive a Volvo, that part could have been changed to something like a Miata for Edyth, just saying.
